Zags score three goals in a span of six minutes in second half

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley jumped out to a four-goal lead over Gonzaga women's soccer, but then had to hold off furious late rally, for a 5-3 home victory Monday.

Ruby Hladeck recorded a brace and added an assist for the Wolverines (3-2-1). Jacey Wood and Faith Webber both scored a goal and had an assist. UVU possessed the ball for 56 percent of the match, and had a 17-11 advantage in shots, with a 9-6 edge in shots on frame. The Bulldogs took seven of the nine corner kicks in the game.

Hladeck scored the opening goal in the 16^th minute off an assist from Webber. In the 35^th minute, Sadie Beardall assisted on Wood's goal. Ten minutes later just before halftime, Wood found Lulie MacFarlane for her first goal of the assist. Webber's fourth goal of the season in the 53^rd minute was assisted by Hladeck.

The Zags (2-4-0) then went on scoring run of their own over a six-minute span. Katelyn Rigg found the back of the net for the third time this season on a penalty kick in the 72^nd minute. A minute later, Brooke Metcalfe and Emily Todd connected for Metcalfe's first collegiate goal. Makayla Werner cut the lead to one in the 77^th minute on an unassisted score.

Hladeck sealed the win converting on a penalty in the 82^nd minute for her fifth goal of the year.

Michaela McCollum made four saves in the Gonzaga net, while Leah Wolf had three saves for Utah Valley.

Gonzaga visits No. 4 TCU (5-1-0) Friday at 5 p.m. Pacific Time. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus, with live stats on GoZags.com.
