HONOLULU, Hawai'i — The Gonzaga men's tennis team opened its Sunday match in Hawai'i with a strong doubles point and carried the momentum into singles play, earning a 4-0 sweep over Hawaii Pacific.
Gonzaga jumped out to an early advantage in doubles, winning two matches to claim the opening point. At No. 1 doubles,
Giovanni Branchetti and
Jay Fairclough posted a 6-3 win over Heitzeberg and Newman. The Bulldogs secured the doubles point at No. 3, where
Diego Herrera and
Tom Dunlop earned a 6-4 victory against Vasir and Perrod.
The Bulldogs continued their momentum into singles play, quickly building on their lead. Branchetti delivered a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, defeating Matic 6-2, 6-2. Gonzaga also won at No. 3 singles, as
Oscar Rashed earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Terry.
Tom Dunlop added another point for Gonzaga at No. 4 singles, defeating Newman 6-1, 6-3, as the Bulldogs maintained control throughout the match.
