HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Gonzaga Men's Tennis opened its spring season on Thursday, falling 6-1 to No. 15 California in a neutral-site matchup in Hawai'i.
GU started strong in doubles, where the pairing of Nicholas Reeves and Oscar Rashed earned a 6-1 win on court two. Cal claimed the doubles point, however, with victories on courts one and three.
In singles, the Golden Bears extended their lead with straight-set wins on courts two and six. The Zags continued to fight across the lineup, with several courts pushing deep into tight sets, including a first-set tiebreaker from Giovanni Branchetti on court one and a competitive second set from Rashed on court three.
Gonzaga's lone victory of the day came from Reeves, who delivered a gritty comeback win on court four. After dropping the opening set, the freshman rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 victory to put the Zags on the board.
