Zag pitchers pick up two WCC Weekly Awards

SAN BRUNO, Calif.- Gonzaga Baseball picked up two WCC awards on Monday, with Karsten Sweum being named the WCC Pitcher of the Week and Landon Hood again being selected as the WCC Freshman of the week.

Sweum shut down #13 Oklahoma on Sunday to lead the Zags to an upset win, allowing only one run in six innings of pitching. Sweum only gave up three hits and a single walk across the quality start, striking out seven batters. He retired 12 straight batters in a row in the middle of his start against an OU offense that had entered the matchup in the top 10 in scoring per game in Division 1. This is the first weekly WCC Award for Sweum.

Hood picked up the save for the Zags over #13 Oklahoma, complimenting the stellar start with three hitless innings out of the bullpen. He allowed no runs and had only one walk across all three innings and did not surrender a run or allow a runner beyond first base.  Hood struck out a remarkable seven of the eleven batters he faced. He still has not allowed a run across 11.1 innings this year. This is the second time this season that Hood has been named the WCC Freshman of the Week.
