SPOKANE, Wash- Gonzaga Baseball (10-13) welcomed fans back to Patterson Complex with an exciting run rule victory over Washington State (10-13), winning Wednesday's matchup 19-8.
The Zags walked off the game early thanks to the run rule, with Maddox Haley blasting a three run homer over the left field foul pole to end the game early in the seventh inning. The umpires initially ruled that hit as a foul ball, leading to a review before the game ended on an overturned call and a celebratory walk-off trot around the bases for Haley (complete with a mimicked fictional swing) several minutes after he hit the home run.
Haley had an incredible day at the plate, tying a program record for hits in a game with 5. He went a perfect five for five, adding two doubles and two home run. He scored four runs, tying a Patterson complex facility record for runs scored by a Zag at a home game.  Haley had 6 runs batted in, tied for third most ever by a player in a game on Coach Steve Hertz Field.
Eight different Zags scored a run today, with the team's 19 runs combining for the fourth most by GU in a single game ever played at the current stadium.
The Zags jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning, taking advantage of four hits to force the Cougs into their bullpen before the first inning even ended. Washington State used nine arms tonight, with eight different pitchers giving up a run to the Zags. The Zags added another run in the bottom of the second inning to increase the lead.
Washington State got runs back in the following innings, with Matt Priest hitting homers in back to back innings in the third and the fourth inning. Haley added his first home run of the day in the third inning. GU then added another four runs in the fourth as they turned a bases loaded situation into four runs thanks to a double from Haley.
The game really broke open when GU scored nine runs in the seventh inning to end the game early, using three RBI walks to score a run and keep the bases loaded. An RBI double by Tommy Eisenstat added another two runs before the game winning review home run. Incredibly, Justin Feld technically picked up a save in the walkoff win since he entered the game with just a 10-8 lead and closed out the last full inning for the Zags.
Gonzaga Baseball will continue to bring excitement to the diamond on Friday when they play against Pacific. The conference contest will start at 6pm.
