The men's tennis team dropped a match against Portland, coming up short in a tightly contested match, 4-3.
The Zags had a promising start in doubles play with
Oscar Rashed and
Nicholas Reeves claiming the first victory 6-2. Senior
Gus Krauel and sophomore
Diego Herrera came through and took the doubles point for the Zags, 6-4.
As for singles,
Giovanni Branchetti kept the momentum up for the Bulldogs in a three-set battle against Portland. Branchetti lost the first set 7-6, before claiming the next two 7-6 and 6-0.
Tom Dunlop also gained another point for the Zags against Gian Manhas, 6-3 and 7-5.
Despite competitive matchups, Gonzaga lost their footage in singles.
Diego Herrera was pitted against Tannor Binder. Herrera lost in a tiebreak in the first set 7-6, turning it around to win the second 6-2, before falling short 6-1.
Nicholas Reeves also took the first set 6-2; Reeves fell short in the last two sets 6-4 and 6-3.
On court two,
Jay Fairclough couldn't gain control against Portland, dropping to his opponent 6-2 and 6-1. Junior
Oscar Rashed was head-to-head with Nikola Keremedchiev in a first-set tiebreaker; unfortunately, he fell short 7-6 and then 7-5 in the second set.
The Bulldogs will close out their last match of the regular season against Saint Mary's tomorrow at 11 am.
