Ricky Sanchez named Semifinalist for Nation's Top Shortstop Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.- Gonzaga shortstop Ricky Sanchez has been named to the College Baseball Foundation's list of semifinalists for the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award. The Brooks Wallace Award is given to the most outstanding shortstop in college baseball every season. 

Sanchez has started 35 games for the Zags, including each of the last 33 straight games. Sanchez is hitting .351, including seven doubles, a triple and four home runs. He has scored 25 runs and driven in another 26 runs. The shortstop was responsible for the most RBIs by a Zag in a single game since 2006 when he drove in nine runs against Indiana State on March 15. Sanchez also tied the program record for home runs in a game (3) and hits in a single game (5) in that game. Sanchez has 32 putouts and 73 assists in the field this year, putting up a .963 fielding percentage.
