Whittaker comes from New Zealand and was recently selected as the sole New Zealand representative for the National Basketball Association Basketball Without Borders Global Camp In Las Vegas. It marked the first women's only BWB camp ever held. The camp brought 38 of the top female school-age prospects from 24 countries as it was led by the NBA, WNBA and FIBA. Whittaker also competed in the U-19 nationals, where she represented her hometown, Canterbury. Her team won the tournament and Whittaker was named the most valuable player from the tournament.
Fortier on Whittaker: Lauren is going to be a huge asset to our team. She adds size and skill and brings a ton of high-level experience to the team. There are not many players out there who move so fluid at her height. She can score inside and out and loves to play the physical game. We can't wait to get her to Spokane.
