2021-22 Women's Rowing Roster
Biography
2021-22: Started the season in the No.1 position of the Varsity 8 team, where she helped Gonzaga earn fourth place with a time of 14:01.28 at the Head of Oklahoma event… Also aided in the Varsity 8 team’s third-place finish at the Head of the Lake event… Transitioned to the bow position of the Second Varsity team at the PLU Invitational, where she assisted in two straight first-place finishes… Rowed in the No.3 position of the Second Varsity 8 team at the San Diego Crew Classic, helping the team earn fourth and seventh-place finishes…Part of the crew that swept the WCC Championships and went on to compete at the NCAA Championships.
2019-20: Rowed with the second varsity eight during the fall…helped the Bulldogs to an 18:43.5 finish at the Head of the Spokane time trial…in the final fall race of the season, helped GU to a 15:30.2 finish in the 4,000-meter time trial against Washington State and Oregon State…spring season shortened due to COVID-19.
2018-19: At the Head of the Spokane, finished fouth in the second novice eight boat...placed third at the Fawley Cup in the third varsity eight boat...in the varsity four at the WCC Championships, finishe third.
High School: Graduated in 2018 from West Linn High School in West Linn, Ore…rowed for Rose City Rowing Club for four years…competed at the 2017 Head of the Charles regatta…also competed at the 2017 and 2018 Youth National Championships…was a National Honors Society member, a National Math Honors Society member and a World Language Honors Society member…was the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper…graduated with honors.
Personal: Daughter of Jeff and Melinda Nickas…majoring in nursing…chose Gonzaga because “of how welcoming the team and community were. Nowhere else had anything close”…father Jeff played baseball for Lewis & Clark College in Portland...Participated in rowing while attending West Linn High School… Earned three varsity letters while maintaining a 4.2 GPA… Also involved in National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, and was the editor-in-chief for her high school newspaper…
