Susan Brown enters her second season as assistant coach with the Gonzaga University women's soccer program. She works primarily with the Gonzaga keepers.
In her first season at GU in 2014, Brown helped the Zags to their first winning season since 2007. The Bulldogs went 4-4-1 in West Coast Conference play. Brown helped Christie Tombari receive honorable mention All-WCC honors in the net. Tombari moved into third all-time in program history with a career goals-against average of 1.39. She is fourth with 11 career shutouts, and eighth in the career saves column with 168.
Although this is Brown's first permanent collegiate coaching position, she is no stranger to manning the sidelines. She served as volunteer goalkeeper coach during the 2013 campaign and was primarily tasked with helping run practices for both the keepers and field players. Brown also took on travel responsibilities including coordinating meals, equipment, and game preparation.
She also has served as head coach of Spokane Foxes FC, a premier youth soccer squad, since May 2013. She is responsible for the technical, tactical, and fitness development of the club's players. Among numerous other duties, she's also run the Foxes Goalkeeper Academies since beginning with the club.
Brown transitioned into coaching after playing for Gonzaga for two years. From 2011 to 2012, she patrolled the box for Gonzaga, starting all 39 matches for the Zags. The Calgary, Alberta, native tallied 11 shutouts--the second-most by a Zag keeper--and made 193 saves, putting her sixth all time. Also, her goals-against average of 1.50 was tied for the third best in team history.
The Gonzaga alum graduated in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in sport management. She holds a level 6 coaching license from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
