MOSCOW, Idaho - - Polley McCune and Sara Best each scored early second-half goals, and Gonzaga University's offense managed just two shots Sunday as the University of Idaho posted a 2-1 non-conference women's soccer victory over the Bulldogs at Guy Wicks Field.
The loss came on the heels of Friday's 3-2 victory over the University of San Francisco and prevented the Bulldogs (7-11-0) from reaching their eighth win of the season to tie a school single-season mark. Idaho evened its record at 8-8-2.
McCune's goal came just one minute into the second half, taking Christine Rennick's pass and putting it past Gonzaga keeper Gina Legaz. Five minutes later Best headed Tiffany Jensen's cross into the net for the 2-0 lead.
The lone Gonzaga goal of the match came at 69:00, Megan Black getting the unassisted tally.
Idaho held a 19-2 shots advantage, including 13-1 in the second half. Jenel Miller and Tricia Haynes split the netminding duties for the Vandals and were not called on for any saves. Legaz had a much busier afternoon, finishing with 6 saves, 4 in the second half.
Gonzaga will conclude the season this weekend when it travels to Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine University.
