STOCKTON, Calif. - Despite Holly Bruno?s team-high 24 points Gonzaga University dropped its Tuesday night basketball game to the University of the Pacific 84-70.
Pacific (1-0) took an 11-9 lead with 15:09 left in the first half and never trailed the rest of the contest. The Bulldogs (1-1) found themselves down by 12 points at the break and the Tigers lead proved to be insurmountable in the second half.
Junior Melanie Tipps and senior Sydney Perno connected on 13 points each while sophomore Jessica Malone contributed 11 to round out the Bulldogs? cast of double-digit scorers. Freshman Nathalie Chevally teamed with Perno to pull down a game-high eight rebounds.
Pacific was paced by sophomore guard Selena Ho?s career-high 26 points. Teammates Millie Kimpton and Eden Palacio added 16 points apiece for the Tigers.
Gonzaga shot 40 percent from the field on the night compared to the Tigers 46 percent. The Bulldogs connected on 4-13 three-pointers while the Tigers hit a scorching 9-18 from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday night when the travel to Provo, UT for a clash with Brigham Young University (2-0). Game-time is set for 6 p.m. pst.
