San Diego Downs GU Volleyball In 3 Games

SAN DIEGO - Gonzaga dropped its fourth straight game to open the 2000 West Coast Conference volleyball season as San Diego downed the Zags in three games on Saturday night at the USD Sports Center.

The Toreros had two players combine for 28 of their 45 kills as they defeated Gonzaga 15-11, 15-4, and 15-10. Adrian Frediani finished the contest with 17 kills while Lindsey Lampert added 11 kills for USD. Ali Martin slipt time at the setter position with Holly Olmsted as both combined to pass out 36 assists.

Gonzaga turned in its second consecutive night of poor hitting as the Zags finished the match with a .135 attack percentage, following a .185 attack percentage at Saint Mary's on Friday night. Senior Heather Osberg was the lone Gonzaga player to reach double digits in kills with 12, but she finished the night with only a .200 attack percentage. Britt Whiting and Emilie Heggli were the only other Zags to finish the evening with an attack percentage over .200 with Whiting at .294 (7-2-17) and Heggli at .375 (4-1-8). Osberg also led the team with 10 digs.

Gonzaga drops its eighth straight game on the season falling to 4-13 and 0-4 in the WCC. The Zags will return to Spokane to host WCC powers Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine next Friday and Saturday night. Game time for both matches is at 7 p.m. San Diego improved to 7-8 and 2-2 in the WCC with the win.
