Box Score

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State scored three first-half goals on its way to a 4-1 non-conference victory over Gonzaga on a cold Friday afternoon at the Lower Soccer Field in Pullman.

The Cougars went on the attack early in the game with Natalie Kiel scoring a re-direction shot from inside the goal box during the 11th minute. Katrina Stroh added an additional Cougar score just six minutes later with an assist from Beth Childs. WSU's final first half goal came off the foot of Deka DeWitt as she drove home a ball high into the back of the net as Gonzaga goalkeeper Gina Legaz just missed getting a hand on the ball to deflect it out of the goal.

Washington State opened the second half much the same way it played the first half quickly attacking the Gonzaga defense. Katrina Stroh broke through for the fourth Cougar goal during the 64th minute as Natalie Kieh assisted on the goal.

Gonzaga finally got its offense rolling in the final 30 minutes of action. Walker Loseno had the first good scoring attempt for Gonzaga as her header was tipped away from the open net by WSU goalkeeper Lindsey Jorgensen. The Zags would finally break the ice in the 74th minute as Sara Streufert scored after getting a rebound from her initial shot. Streufert narrowly missed a second goal in the 80th minute as her shot from 15 meters hit the post and bounced out of bounds.

The Zags drop to 3-6-0 on the season and travel across state next week to meet the University of Washington on Friday. Washington State improves to 5-2-0 on the year and extends its winning streak over to Gonzaga to 11 games.
