The Saint Mary's Gaels took control from the get-go as they held Gonzaga to 14-of-61 shooting (23%) and eased their way to a 62-36 West Coast Conference victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday night at The Kennel.

The game started out as both teams struggled offensively and the Gaels held a slim 8-4 lead through 7:32 of play. That was the closest the Bulldogs would come as Saint Mary's went on a 23-point run that took only six minutes to complete. Amanda Fahsholtz's jumper at the 1:12 mark broke Gonzaga's 14-minute scoring drought as the Zags were faced with a 32-6 deficit at halftime.

Saint Mary's held Gonzaga to their lowest first-half point total ever, as the Zags' six points broke the old record of 11 points set against the University of Washington in 1991. The Gaels held the Zags to 3-of-28 shooting (10.7%) in the first half. The Bulldogs were also held scoreless from behind the 3-point stripe as they failed to connect on eight first-half attempts.

The Gaels came out of halftime and built a commanding 30-point lead, 46-16, at the 12:45 mark. Jerkisha Dosty asserted her presence on both ends of the court in the second half as she scored 12 of her game-high 15 points and tallied three of her game-high five steals.

The Bulldogs were without the services of their leading scorer Jessica Malone (20.2 ppg) who is still nursing an ankle injury suffered in Thursday night's loss to San Francisco. Head Trainer Leanne Stockton reported that the team is hopeful for Malone's return next Thursday, Jan. 18, when the Bulldogs host the University of Portland.

Triana Allen led Gonzaga with 15 points and four steals while Bernice Stime set a new career-high with 15 rebounds. Stime's 15 boards and Allen's 15 points were good for game-high totals with Allen matching Jerkisha Dosty's 15-point total.

The 36 points scored was the 2nd lowest point total in Gonzaga women's basketball history dating back to 1991, when the Bulldogs scored just 32 points in a loss to the University of Washington.

The Bulldogs (5-10, 0-2) will host the University of Portland this coming Thursday, Jan. 18, and will try for their first WCC victory. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at The Martin Centre.
