Zag Women Fall 88-60 To San Francisco

Carmel Lampson scored a career-high 20 points Saturday night in West Coast Conference play but it was not enough as Gonzaga was handed their 10th straight loss by the University of San Francisco, falling 88-60 to the Lady Dons at War Memorial Gym. With the win, USF's head coach Mary Hile Nepfel collected her 100th victory in the WCC.

USF improves to 12-11 overall and 5-5 in the WCC as GU drops to 5-18 overall and a 0-10 mark in conference play.

USF shot a blistering 73 percent on a 16-of-22 shooting performance in the first half to give the Lady Dons a 43-28 lead going into halftime. San Francisco connected on 5-of-6 3's (83-percent) from beyond the arc by half's end. The hot shooting helped the Lady Dons overcome 16 first half turnovers.

Bernice Stime's 3-pointer at the 17:55 mark brought the Zags to within 15 and cut USF's lead 50-35. The Lady Dons established a 26-point lead (the largest of the night), 66-40, when Lindsey Huff drilled a 3-pointer with 11:07 remaining. GU trailed throughout the remainder of the game, coming no closer than a 15-point margin.

Senior center Kim Whisler led the way for USF with a game-high 20 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the floor to go along with five rebounds. Sophomore guard Alicia Hernandez pumped in 16 points and dished out a game-high eight assists. Mary Jane Krueger (13) and Molly Shanley (11) combined for 24 points to help pace USF past the Bulldogs.

Lampson scored her 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting as she made good on 4-of-7 shots from 3-point range and a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Lampson also contributed three boards and two steals. The Zags were led by Jessica Malone in assists (5), steals (3), and rebounds (7).

The Zag women pick up WCC action on Friday, Feb. 16, when they travel to Loyola Marymount University to take on the Lions. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
