Lions Roar 60-37 Over Zag Women

Gonzaga University lost its school record 11th straight game with a 60-37 West Coast Conference women's basketball loss to Loyola Marymount University Friday at Gersten Pavilion.

With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 5-19 overall and 0-11 in the WCC as LMU (17-7, 8-3) dealt GU its record-setting 11th straight loss. The previous record was established by last year's team as they lost 10 in a row to close out a 9-19 season.

The Zags shot 21.7 percent (13-of-60) for the game, their worst shooting output of the season. Only four Bulldogs scored in the game. Gonzaga's Jessica Malone led all scorers with 22 points going 8-of-21 from the floor which included a 5-for-13 clip from 3-point range. Carmel Lampson (9), Bernice Stime (4), and Anne Bickelhaupt (2) accounted for the other 15 points. The 37 points was the second-lowest point total this season.

Jasmin Matthews, Bryn Briton, and Kate Murray scored in double digits to lead the Lions as each contributed 14, 13 and 12, respectively. Briton recorded a double-double, grabbing a game-high 12 boards and contributing 13 points in 32 minutes of action. LMU connected on 25-of-65 shots for for 38.5 percent.

The Lions have now won four consecutive games against Gonzaga. The last time the Bulldogs beat the Lions was Feb. 20, 1999 as LMU fell to GU 69-57 at The Kennel.

The Zag women resume WCC action Saturday when they travel to Pepperdine University to take on the Waves. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, Calif.
