SPOKANE, Wash. - Fauziya (fuh-ZEE-uh) Muhammad, a 5-8 guard from Monroe, Wash., High School has been granted admission to Gonzaga University and will play women's basketball for the Bulldogs in the fall.
Muhammad confirmed her intent to enroll Wednesday according to second-year Bulldog head coach Kelly Graves.
Muhammad capped her career by earning All-State 3A honors this spring after helping guide Monroe into the Washington State 3A Tournament. She was a four-time All-Wesco 3A League pick for head coach Alan Dickson, including a first-team selection each of the last three seasons. She was also selected to play in the Emerald City All-Star Classic, and has played for the prestigious Seattle Magic AAU team.
She averaged 16 ppg, 7 assists/game and 4 steals/game as a senior at Monroe. Muhammad set a State 3A Tournament record with six 3-pointers against Seattle Prep this year, scoring 21 points in the season-ending third-round loss. She scored 20 points in the second-round victory over Arlington.
"Fauziya is a very intelligent young woman with a bright basketball future ahead of her," Graves said. "She is a tremendous athlete who can create shots for herself or her teammates. She is a 3-point shooter with range. I like the fact she is a taller point guard who will be a great on-ball defender."
