MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine dropped in 12 service aces and collected 40 kills on Friday night as the No. 12-ranked Waves (8-5, 1-0 WCC) rolled over Gonzaga (2-12, 0-1 WCC) in three games. Pepperdine won the contest 30-24, 30-14 and 30-22. It was the West Coast Conference opener for both schools.
Pepperdine received double-digit kill efforts from Lyndsey Hache' and Rouwenhorst as the Waves outhit Gonzaga 40-24. Hache' led all players with 13 kills on a .522 hitting night. Rouwenhorst added 10.
Abby Cullen was the Zags bright spot on the night with seven kills and four of Gonzaga's seven blocks. GU was limited to just a .047 attack percentage including a negative .042 effort in game two's 30-14 loss.
Pepperdine was able to jump to quick leads in each of the first two games with a 10-2 spurt in game one and 21-9 run in game two. The Bulldogs stayed within four points during the final game before falling 30-22.
WCC Player of the Year Katie Wilkins dropped in five aces for Pepperdine while Katy Daly tallied four aces.
Natasha Kozen chipped in six kills for Gonzaga and Heather Signor led the Bulldogs with 11 digs.
Gonzaga lost its fourth match this season against a ranked opponent and will wrap up its first WCC weekend of action on Saturday night at Loyola Marymount. Fans can access live stats for the contest on www.gozags.com
