Women's Basketball Defeats Washington State 77-57

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University Bulldogs (4-4) remained undefeated at home Wednesday night as they routed the Washington State University Cougars (0-6) 77-57 in non-conference play at the Kennel.

Sophomore Raeanna Jewell scored a career-high 21 points and pulled down 7 boards to pace the Zags. Ashley Burke added 16 points and a game-high 8 rebounds.

Gonzaga jumped out to a quick five-point lead before Washington State started competing and quickly caught up, taking the lead after the first four minutes. The two teams changed leads four times and tied twice before the Bulldogs pulled ahead 16-14 at 11:53 on two good free throws by Anne Bailey.

Gonzaga never looked back as they led by as many as 16 first-half points, going to the locker room with a 43-27 advantage. The Bulldogs shot 81.3 percent from the field in the first half.

The second half continued to go the Bulldogs way as they built a 26 point lead with 10 minutes remaining and shot 100 percent from the free-throw line going 2-for-2 to finish the night shooting 83.3 percent from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs shot an overall 50. 9 percent.

Jewell (21), Burke (16), Shannon Mathews (11) and Bailey (10) all scored in the double-digits for Gonzaga.

Bianca McCall led the Cougars with 15 points while Kim Dugan chipped in 12. Washington State shot an overall 44.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from the free-throw line.

Gonzaga plays game four of a six-game homestand Sunday afternoon as they host cross-town rival Whitworth College at 2 p.m. at the Kennel.
