MISSOULA, Mont. - Katie Edwards came off the bench to score 15 points on five 3-point baskets and spark the Montana Lady Griz to a 73-68 non-conference win over Gonzaga Sunday afternoon at Dahlberg Arena.

Montana needed the all-around effort to fight off the Bulldogs (8-6). Gonzaga grabbed a quick 8-1 lead and led for most of the first half. Edwards gave the Lady Griz their first lead with her third 3-pointer of the game to make the score 25-24 with just under four minutes left in the half.

The Lady Griz led 34-30 at halftime, but Gonzaga rallied to tie the score 37-37 and later 45-45 with 13:20 to play in the game. Moments later, with Montana leading 49-47, Montana went on a 10-2 run to open its largest lead of the game, 59-49 with 8:20 to play. Edwards and Jill Henkel spearheaded the rally. Edwards knocked down a trey to make the score 54-47. Henkel then stole the ball and drove the length of the court for a layup, and then hit a 3-pointer of her own to give the hosts a 10-point lead.

Gonzaga would not go away though. The two teams tied five times and swapped leads five times before Montana took the lead in the last minutes. The Bulldogs clawed to within four points, 62-58, but the Lady Griz converted 9-of-10 free throws in the final 4:31 to come away with the victory.

Shannon Mathews led five Bulldogs in double figures with 14 points. Raeanna Jewell scored 13 while collecting a double-double with 13 rebounds, Triana Allen added 11 points and a season-high seven rebounds. Ashley Burke and Anne Bickelhaupt scored 10 points apiece. Gonzaga received only 10 points off the bench, while Montana's accounted for 25 points.

The Zags finished the day shooting 45.9 percent from the field, 26.7 from three-point territory and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

Gonzaga returns to the Kennel Wednesday as they host the Eastern Washington Eagles for their last non-conference tilt at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs begin West Coast Conference play Friday against Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., at 7 p.m.
