SPOKANE, Wash. - Sophomore Rachael Manning scored the lone goal for Gonzaga University as Saint Mary's College defeated the Bulldogs, 3-1, in a West Coast Conference match on Sunday afternoon. The win improved Saint Mary's record to 6-7-1 (2-1 WCC) and dropped Gonzaga to 8-7 (0-3 WCC).

The Gaels marked the board early as Jen Belzer scored in the fifth minute of play. Teammate Sarah Takekawa crossed the ball in the air from the left side of the goal as Belzer shot it past Bulldog sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Haugen for a 1-0 lead.

McKenna Belzer widened the gap for Saint Mary's as she received a pass from Shauna Rech to score her fourth goal of the season, low and across the net.

Gonzaga retaliated as Manning found the ball after it squirted out of a congregation in front of the goal. The Puyallup, Wash., native scored her first goal of the season from 12 yards past first half Gael goalkeeper Amaya Zabala. Saint Mary's led going into halftime, 2-1.

The Gaels weren't finished yet, as Rech scored her own goal on a breakaway starting at the half-field mark for her first goal of the season. Rech came to face Haugen one-on-one, and sent the goalkeeper diving the opposite way of the shot for the final goal of the match.

Despite the scoreboard, the Bulldogs outshot the Gaels 15-11, with a 9-3 ratio during the second half. Saint Mary's goalkeeper Alicia Artuso marked eight saves, Zabala tallied four and Haugen had three.

Gael Jessica Poole received a yellow card with 23 seconds left (89:37) for obstructing a free kick, causing a delay of game.

Gonzaga goes on the road as they travel to take on Loyola Marymount on Friday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. in Los Angeles, Calif. for a WCC match.
