No Tricks For Volleyball As Bulldogs Drop Halloween Match

SAN DIEGO - Halloween was not kind to the Gonzaga University volleyball team as the Bulldogs (3-21, 0-8 WCC) dropped their 11th straight match with a 3-0 setback at No. 18 University of San Diego (16-6, 5-3 WCC). The Toreros easily won the match 30-22, 30-16, 30-24 to increase their current win streak to 20 straight over the Bulldogs.

Abby Cullen was the Bulldogs top offensive weapon as the senior hammered home 12 of Gonzaga's 29 team kills. Cullen connected for a .346 attack percentage as she had 26 attempts with only three errors. Cullen was also solid at the net with three assisted blocks while Lauren Armas was the team leader with four assisted blocks, GU winning that category over San Diego 7-3. Heather Signor continued her chase of the school digs record with 12.

Devon Forster led the Toreros steady attack with a match-high 19 kills as three San Diego players reached double-digits. Kristen Hurst followed with 12 kills and 15 digs while Ryan Maspero chipped in with 10 kills and 12 digs. Maspero also had five service aces as Gonzaga struggled to return serve allowing 12 San Diego service aces in the three-game match. The match also marked the 100th career win for Toreros coach Jennifer Petrie.

Gonzaga continues its WCC road trip on Saturday night with a match at No. 15 Santa Clara. The Bulldogs have not defeated the Broncos in 17 straight meetings but pushed Santa Clara to four matches in their previous meeting in Spokane.
