MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine University (22-2, 12-0 WCC) made sure not to duplicate their last performance against the Gonzaga University Bulldogs (3-26, 0-13 WCC) as the No. 4-ranked Waves defeated the Bulldogs 3-0 during senior night at Pepperdine. After being pushed to five-games in the first meeting of the season between the two schools, Pepperdine won 30-19, 30-23 and 30-11 to extend their WCC win streak to 42 matches.

Gonzaga played well against Pepperdine in the opening two game before being overpowered in the final game. The Waves built an 11-1 lead in the final game behind the solid hitting of Katie Wilkins who led all players with 15 kills and a .433 attack percentage. Pepperdine finished the contest with a .407 team attack percentage compared to only .056 for Gonzaga.

"We played well against Pepperdine in the first two games tonight," said head coach Kip Yoshimura on his team's performance. "Unfortunately we could not keep up that same intensity in the final game and they showed why they are No. 4 team in the country."

Christina Davis paced the Bulldogs offense with a team-high 12 kills while Natasha Kozen and Abby Cullen finished second on the squad with eight kills. Heather Signor reached 10 digs and will have one more match to try and break the school record needing 42 digs against Portland in the season finale.

"Against a team like Pepperdine you have to play your best match for the entire contest or they will make you pay," Yoshimura added. "We started really well and played like we played against them in Spokane. Our back row players were controlling the serve and Emilee (Gihring) was giving good sets to our three up front hitters (Abby Cullen, Christina Davis and Natasha Kozen). "

Katy Daly finished second on the Pepperdine team with 11 kills while Christina Hinds had a match-high 12 digs. Pepperdine was also able to dominate play at the net with an 11-4 block advantage. Sophia Milo had eight blocks, three of them solo for the Waves while Abby Cullen and Natasha Kozen each had two assisted blocks to lead GU.

Gonzaga will wrap up the 2003 season next Saturday when the Bulldogs host Portland on senior night at Martin Centre. The match will start at 7 p.m. with ceremonies to honor Gonzaga's four seniors prior to match.
