SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University Broncos (15-5, 6-1) snapped the Gonzaga University Bulldogs (13-9, 4-3) four-game West Coast Conference win-streak Saturday night, defeating the Bulldogs 65-41 at the Leavey Center.
Santa Clara took an 18-6 lead on a long three-pointer from Kayla Huss. The Broncos improved that lead to 22-9 with a steal and lay-up by junior Jennie Rondel. Huss closed the first half with a 15-foot jumper that just beat the buzzer to give Santa Clara a 34-18 lead. Huss led the Broncos with 15 points while Tammy Annas chipped in 14 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
The Broncos kept the Bulldogs to single-digits as Anne Bailey led the offense with nine points and seven rebounds. Ashley Burke added eight points and four rebounds. Gonzaga finished shooting 27.5 percent from the field, 16.7 percent from three-point territory and 55.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Gonzaga returns to the Kennel Thursday night to host the Loyola Marymount Lions at 7 p.m.
