SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University junior forward Annie Hawkins has been named the West Coast Conference women's soccer Co-Player of the Week.
Hawkins, a Salt Lake City, Utah, native, scored three goals in the Bulldogs' 3-1 win over Portland State University in the GU season opener. Hawkins became the second woman in Gonzaga's history to get a hat-trick.
Hawkins put her first goal in the net just 17 minutes into play off an assist by junior Walker Loseno. shot the ball from the top off the box past senior Viking goalkeeper Joell Giger to put the Bulldogs on top.
Hawkins then found the top of the box just ten minutes later after a breakaway started by junior Ashley Pryor, to widen the gap for Gonzaga with a two goal advantage. To complete the hat trick, Hawkins received the ball from Loseno just two yards from the goal in the 49th minute to seal the victory for the Bulldogs.
Hawkins currently has nine career goals, which puts her into the Gonzaga record book, tied for fourth.
The Bulldogs return to action as they travel to face UC Riverside on Friday, September 5, at 3 p.m.
