Bulldogs Volleyball Drops Five-Game Thriller To Boise State

SPOKANE, Wash. - For the second day in a row the host Gonzaga Bulldogs pushed an opponent to five games and for the second consecutive day the Bulldogs (1-7) were on the short end of the decision falling to Boise State (2-6). The Broncos won the deciding fifth game 15-7 and the match 21-30, 30-15, 18-30, 30-18 and then 15-7.

The match appeared to be a tale of two sides of the court as the team playing on the West side of the net was dominant in the winning the first four games. Gonzaga had attack percentages of .440 (game one) and .444 (game three) as they won their two games on that side of the court. Boise State was dominant on offense in games two and four with attack percentages of .333 and .357. In the final game neither team could muster an advantage with Boise State attacking at .053 and the Bulldogs were even at .000.

Cameron Flunder led the Broncos attack as three players finished in double-digits in kills. Flunder had 19 kills on 37 attacks with Sarah Johnson and Jessica Childress right behind Flunder at 16 and 15 kills each. Johnson was also the Broncos top defensive player with 14 digs.

Christina Davis and Jamie VanMeetren each finished with double-doubles to lead Gonzaga. Each player finished with 12 kills, Davis adding 13 digs and VanMeetren 11 digs. Senior Abby Cullen was held in check with only five kills but led the Bulldogs with six blocks, two of the solo.

In the second match of the morning session, Idaho State (8-3) outlasted UNLV (5-3) to win in five games. The Bengals were led by the attacking pair of Jennie James and Ali Gorny. James had a match-high 25 kills while Gorny had 24 for ISU. The Bengals finished the contest with a .246 attack percentage as they won 30-18, 28-30, 24-30, 30-24, 16-14. Leiana Oswald was the Rebels big attacker with 24 kills on 59 attempts. The Rebels did win the battle at the net with a 24-11 block advantage. Patricia Assuncao led the Rebels defense with six blocks.

UNLV will play Boise State at 5 p.m. in the night session while Idaho State will face the host Bulldogs.
