SPOKANE, Wash. - The University of San Diego Toreros showed why they are one of the top ranked teams in nation on Friday night as the 22nd-ranked Toreros connected for 61 kills and a .361 team attack percentage in a 3-0 win over Gonzaga University. San Diego (15-4, 8-0 WCC) remained unbeaten in West Coast Conference action with the 30-16, 30-19, 30-15 decision over the host Bulldogs (4-18, 0-8 WCC).

Devon Forster led all players with 15 kills as four San Diego players reached double-figures. Senior Lauren Armas was the Bulldogs top attacker finishing with seven kills, over a third of the Bulldogs team total of 19 for the night. Kristen Hurst and Christie Dawson added 14 kills each while Moira McCarthy rounded out the USD top attackers with 13 kills. Dawson and McCarthy each finished the night hitting over .600.

Freshman Briawna Mueller was the Bulldogs most effective attacker on the night finishing with a .308 attack percentage and six kills on 13 attack attempts. Fellow freshman Becky Jones was the top GU player at the net finishing with three solo blocks while senior Rebecca Wood chipped in with three block assists. Dawson was the top San Diego blocker with four blocks, two of them solos.

San Diego also dominated play on the defensive side with 57 team digs. Jackie Bernardin led all players with 24 digs while Hurst added 10. Jessica Herrera and Lacey Bell had 10 digs each for Gonzaga. For Herrera the 10 digs marked the 21st time this season that the junior libero has reached double-digit digs.

"I think San Diego showed why they are one of the top teams in our league," mentioned Yoshimura on the Toreros hot hitting performance. "Our team played well in spurts and we had some nice efforts from our younger players including some outstanding solo blocks by Becky (Jones). Despite the outcome I think our team sees where they need to get to in order to compete on a nightly basis with teams like San Diego. We will come out and play hard again tomorrow night against a very good Santa Clara team and see what happens."

Gonzaga continues its homestand on Saturday night with a match against No. 19 Santa Clara. Game time is 7 p.m. in Martin Centre.
