POCATELLO, Ida. - Three Gonzaga University players registered double-digit kills on Friday night as the Bulldogs (4-6) knocked off host Idaho State University (3-9) in the ISU Volleyball Classic. Gonzaga combined for a .272 team attack percentage winning the contest 3-0 by scores of 30-26, 30-26, 30-25.
The Bulldogs dominated play in all three games finishing all three games hitting over .200 percent. Senior Christina Davis led the GU attack with 13 kills and 11 digs while Lauren Armas added 11 kills and freshman Becky Jones chipped in with 10. Lacey Bell was one kill shy of reaching double-figures finishing with nine kills. Senior setter Emilee Gihring passed out 39 assists as she and Davis played in front of a number of friends and family from thier home town of Idaho Falls.
Idaho State was led by Ali Gorny with 9 kills while Ashley Vanderbloomen had 12 digs to lead the Bengals. Last season Gorny was won tournament MVP honors as ISU won the Gonzaga Volleyball Classic. The two teams were balanced on defense at the net with GU collected 15 blocks to 13 for ISU.
Junior libero Jessica Herrera led all players with 18 digs as Gonzaga prepares for Saturday tournament action against New Mexico State and Wyoming. NMSU and Gonzaga have already met once this season with the Aggies knocking off the Bulldogs in four-games at the season-opening Boise State tournament.
