CHENEY, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team won its second consecutive match with a 5-2 victory over the University of Montana in a duel match Friday in Cheney, Wash.

The Zags jumped out to the early lead as they captured the doubles point winning two of the three matches. In the No. 2 doubles spot the team of freshman Amanda Becker and junior Kendall Bates defeated Montana's Colby Fannin and Cheyne Ursich, 8-4. In the No. 3 doubles spot the freshman tandem of Erin Humphrey and Carrie Schofield handed Montana's Jonna Schwartz and Lindsey Torgerson an 8-6 loss.

In singles play senior Angela Fry picked up a win in the No. 1 spot when she defeated Annabelle Janairo, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Also claiming victory for the Bulldogs were Becker who defeated Ursich (6-1, 3-6, 6-4), senior Sirrah Williams over Torgerson (6-1, 7-6 (1)) and Bates over Melena Rosen (6-0, 6-3).

The women's tennis team returns to action on Saturday as they play nearby rival Eastern Washington University in a 2 p.m. match in Cheney, Wash.
