Box Score

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University senior goalkeeper Ashley Haugen posted her 14th career shutout as the Gonzaga women's soccer team cruised to a 2-0 shutout non-conference win over visiting UC Riverside Sunday afternoon at Martin Field.

With the win the Bulldogs remain undefeated on their home pitch and move to 4-2-1 overall, while UC Riverside drops to 4-2-1 with the loss.

With Gonzaga dominating the time of possession in the first period of play and out shooting the Highlanders 8-2, it wasn't until the 44:05 mark that GU was able to break the scoreless contest. Sophomore forward Heather Horn was able to slip a touch pass through a crowded UCR goal box to sophomore striker Nanda McCormick. McCormick corralled the pass and hit a one-timer blast past the Highlanders starting goalkeeper Tawny Poggio for her second game-winning goal of the season.

Just one minute into play of the second period, Gonzaga was able to cement the victory with its second and final goal of the game. Sophomore midfielder Jamie Blanche tallied her third goal of the season with a straight ahead five yard rocket shot that was out of the reach of Poggio.

Gonzaga out shot UC Riverside 16-2 and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Haugen recorded two saves in picking up the shutout win for the Bulldogs, while her counterpart Poggio allowed two goals and recorded eight saves in taking the loss for the Highlanders.

Gonzaga will return to the pitch on Friday as they travel to Pacific Northwest rival Oregon State University for a 5 p.m. match in Corvallis, Ore. Gonzaga will then continue their PAC-10 swing with a stop in Seattle, Wash for a 4 p.m. match against cross-state rival, the University of Washington.
