CORVALLIS, Ore. - Junior defender Beth Drollinger and sophomore forward Nanda McCormick each tally a goal as the Gonzaga University women's soccer team shutout No. 20 Oregon State University in a non-conference match Friday afternoon at Lorenz Field, 2-0.
With the win the Bulldogs record their first-ever win over OSU, win their third consecutive match, post back-to-back shutouts and move to 5-2-1, while the Beavers drop to 6-2-0 with the loss.
Despite being out shot in the first period, 7-4, Gonzaga was able to score the only goal they would need at the 37:13 mark. Drollinger was able to corral a cross from sophomore forward Christine Soma, and launch a laser shot from 25 yards out past the OSU goalkeeper to give GU the early 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs were able to cement the win in the 83rd minute when McCormick and senior defender Stacey Sarro slipped behind the Beavers defense on a breakaway. Sarro fed the ball to McCormick who was able to net her fourth goal of the season.
Senior goalkeeper Ashley Haugen posted her third shutout of the season, and 15th for her career, as she recorded seven saves on the day. OSU goalkeeper Melissa Onstad allowed two goals and recorded one save in taking the loss for the Beavers.
The Bulldogs will take their three-match win streak to Seattle, Wash. on Sunday to battle cross-state rival, the University of Washington, in a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
