LOS ANGELES - Loyola Marymount University (10-7, 4-0 WCC) opened the game with a 17-3 and never looked back as the Lions handed the Gonzaga University Bulldogs (7-12, 2-2 WCC) their second straight West Coast Conference loss, 75-46. Gonzaga dropped the first half of the Los Angeles swing on Thursday night with a one-point overtime loss at Pepperdine University.
LMU was hot from the field all night connecting on 9-of-12 from 3-point range as they shot 50 percent for the game. Gonzaga was ice cold by comparison hitting for only 24 percent on the night. Jami Bjorklund was the Bulldogs leader with 12 points off the bench. Katy Ridenour was second on the squad with 9 points.
Rachel Ziemann and Jenni Smith each were perfect from long range for LMU as they each hit 3-for-3 from 3-point land. Ziemann led all players with 15 while Smith chipped in with 13. The Lions ended the first half with a 40-18 lead.
The Bulldogs return home next week for games against the University of San Diego (Thursday) and University of San Francisco (Saturday). Both games will be 7 p.m. starts at the McCarthey Athletic Center where the Bulldogs are 5-1 this season.
