THIS WEEK: Gonzaga University women's volleyball has a jammed packed week ahead as it plays three matches in five days. The Bulldogs begin the week with a non-conference match at Eastern Washington University Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Zags then resume West Coast Conference action with home matches against Pepperdine University on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Loyola Marymount University on Saturday at 1 p.m.

GAME PROMOTIONS FOR PEPPERDINE MATCH:
RHA Day/P.R.I.D.E. Match - Help win pizza for your hall! The residence hall with the greatest percentage of it's members present will win a pizza party courtesy of Papa John's! Marketing staff will be at the marketing table until the end of the second set to check residents in. The winner will be announced during the break between the second and third sets.
SAAC P.R.I.D.E. is a spirit contest between Gonzaga sports teams. Student-athletes are challenged to bring as many members of their teams as possible to support each other in intercollegiate competition. Teams earn points based on their teams' attendance at P.R.I.D.E. events. The team with the most points at the end of the baseball season is awarded the grand prize and holds the title of Most Spirited Team through the next year.

TEAM DAY: Do you play on or coach a volleyball team? Make sure you don't miss out on Team Night! All local teams, including clubs, high-schools and youth programs are invited to Team Day and encouraged to wear their jerseys and show their team and Gonzaga spirit! Don't forget, you can purchase group tickets for your team at a reduced rate! Group tickets are $40 for 20 tickets, and can be purchased from the McCarthey Athletic Center Ticket Office, by calling (509) 313-6000 or by clicking on the "Tickets" menu button at the top of this page.
ABOUT EASTERN WASHINGTON: Eastern Washington University holds a 10-5 overall record heading into its contest with Gonzaga University and has won six-straight. The Eagles last lost on Sept. 11 when they dropped a 3-0 decision to then-No. 13 California. EWU is led by Lindsey Petroni the reigning Big Sky Conference Player of the Week. Petroni is averaging a team-best 2.07 digs per set.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE EAGLES: Eastern Washington University leads the all-time series with Gonzaga University 24-15 but the Zags have won two out of the last three meetings. Last season, the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs 3-2 at the Martin Centre. The last time GU played in Cheney, Wash. it pulled out a 3-0 sweep over EWU.
ABOUT PEPPERDINE: Pepperdine University is currently 8-6 overall on the year and 1-1 in West Coast Conference action. The Waves dropped a 3-0 decision to Saint Mary's College to open up WCC play but rebounded with a 3-0 sweep of then-No. 20 University of San Diego. Four of the Waves six losses have been to ranked opponents. Pepperdine is led by Lilla Frederick who is averaged 3.13 kills and 2.28 digs per set.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE WAVES: Pepperdine University holds the 41-3 lead in the all-time series and has won the last 24 meetings over Gonzaga University. The Waves defeated the Bulldogs 3-1 in Malibu in 2008 and then swept the Zags in Spokane.
ABOUT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT: Loyola Marymount University enters the week with a 9-7 overall mark and a 0-2 record in West Coast Conference play. The Lions lost a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to then-No. 20 University of San Diego to open WCC action and then fell to Saint Mary's College 3-0. The Lions are led by Alaina Bergsma who is averaging 4.23 kills and 2.14 digs per set.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE LIONS: Loyola Marymount University leads the all-time series over Gonzaga University 34-10. The Bulldogs and Lions have split their yearly WCC series the past three seasons. In 2008, Gonzaga dropped a 3-1 decision on the road to LMU before rebounding with 3-2 victory at the Martin Centre.
WINNING CONFERENCE OPENER: The Gonzaga University women's volleyball squad opened its West Coast Conference season with a bang, defeating the University of Portland 3-0 at the Martin Centre Oct. 3. The WCC opening victory was the first since the 2005 season and only the second since 1994. The win was also just the second WCC opening sweep in school history. The only other time GU opened the WCC season with a 3-0 victory was in 1991 when it swept Saint Mary's College, also at the Martin Centre.
A HOT HITTING DAY: Gonzaga University women's volleyball opened its West Coast Conference season with its best hitting outing in 63 matches. The Bulldogs closed out their 3-0 sweep of the University of Portland hitting a smoking .423 in the match. The last time the Zags hit with that much accuracy was Sept. 14, 2007 when Gonzaga had a .457 attacking percentage in 3-0 sweep of Alcorn State University. The Bulldogs finished with 51 kills and only 10 errors on 97 total attempts against the Pilots.
MOST DIGS IN WEST COAST CONFERENCE: Junior Allyson Powell is the West Coast Conference leader in digs in a single match. Powell collected a career-high 31 digs at Tulsa on Sept. 12 to top the WCC list. Libby Morrison, of Santa Clara University, is right behind Powell with 30 digs, tallied at Sacramento State University on Sept 5.
DOING HER THING: Gonzaga University junior libero Allyson Powell had an explosive defensive outing against the University of Tulsa at the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational Sept. 12. Powell finished the match, a 3-2 victory over the Hurricane, with a career-high 31 digs. She is the first Zag to finish with 30-plus digs in a five-set match since 2003 when Heather Signor had 35.
SINGLE-MATCH RECORD: Gonzaga University women's volleyball junior Caitlin Cozad broke the Bulldog single-match block assists record against Utah State University Aug. 29. The middle blocker finished the match with 15 block assists, breaking assistant coach Abby (Cullen) Bennett's eight-year record of 13. Bennett tallied 13 block assists against the University of Portland in 2002. Cozad became the sixth Zag to register double-digit block assists in a single match. The 15 blocks is also a WCC single-match high.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE STAT LEADERS: Caitlin Cozad has amassed 59 total blocks this season, which leads the team and leads the West Coast Conference. Shannon Lowell, of Saint Mary's College, is second with 57 blocks. Senior Layne Brosky is seventh in the West Coast Conference in kills, averaging 3.10 per set and hitting percentage at .321, while junior libero Allyson Powell is sixth in digs, averaging 3.69 per set.

A STRONG OUTING: Gonzaga University women's volleyball player Kelsey Bashaw had an all-around strong performance against the University of North Dakota Sept. 23. The junior, switching back and forth from setter to outside hitter, finished the match with 28 assists, four kills and three block assists; all career-highs. Bashaw was named the Gonzaga Player of the Match after her breakout performance.
1,000 KILLS: Senior Michelle Boevers became the 11th Gonzaga University women's volleyball player to eclipse the 1,000 kill plateau after tallying 29 kills at the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational. Boevers currently has 1,048 kills to her credit. The last player to tally 1000-plus kills was Becky Jones (2004-07) who finished her career with 1,429.
FIRST BULLDOG WIN: Gonzaga University first-year women's volleyball head coach Dave Gantt earned his first Bulldog career win against Utah State University Aug. 29. Gantt, who was out of the volleyball circuit for seven years, picked up his 217th overall career victory with the 3-2 win.
