THIS WEEKEND: Gonzaga University women's volleyball plays in its final in-season tournament this weekend when it travels to Oklahoma for the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational, hosted by the University of Tulsa. The Bulldogs will open play at the invitational against Texas Tech University on Friday at 2 p.m. PT. On Saturday, the Zags match up with Tulsa at 10:30 a.m. and round out the tournament with a match versus Stephen F. Austin at 2:30 p.m.

NORTHWEST CHALLENGE: The Gonzaga University women's volleyball team currently has a 2-4 overall record after going 1-2 at the Northwest Challenge a week ago. The Bulldogs lone victory of the weekend was a commanding 3-0 sweep of Boise State University.
ALL-TOURNAMENT: Gonzaga University women's volleyball senior Layne Brosky was named to the Northwest Challenge All-Tournament team. Brosky finished with 32 kills and a .329 hitting percentage during the three-match tourney.
ABOUT TEXAS TECH: Texas Tech University currently has a 1-5 overall record on the season. The Red Raiders lone victory of the season was a 3-0 sweep over Southeastern Louisiana. Texas Tech is led by Amanda Dowdy who is averaging 2.89 kills and 1.95 digs per set. Gonzaga holds the slight 2-1 edge in the all-time series with Texas Tech. The last time the two schools played was Sept. 11, 1993 with the Zags pulling out a 3-1 victory at the Spikeoff Gonzaga Tournament.
ABOUT TULSA: The University of Tulsa enters the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational with the best record of the four schools at 6-1. The Hurricane's only loss of the season was a five-set setback to Arkansas in their last match on Sept. 8. Tulsa is led by Jennifer Eichler who is averaging 4.17 kills per set. This will be only the second-ever meeting between Gonzaga University and Tulsa, with the Hurricane earning the victory in their only meeting with the Bulldogs. Tulsa defeated Gonzaga 3-1 on Aug. 31, 1996 at the Cougar Classic in Pullman, Wash.
ABOUT STEPHEN F. AUSTIN: Stephen F. Austin has played the most matches out of the four schools participating in the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational. The Ladyjacks have played nine matches, three more than Gonzaga University, and are 5-4 overall. SFA enters into the Invitational on a two-match losing skid. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
WHAT A DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE: Caitlin Cozad began her junior season with a bang at the Weber State University Tournament. The middle blocker earned All-Tournament honors after collecting 24 total blocks, including 20 block assists and four solo blocks. Cozad also tallied 19 kills in the Bulldogs 1-2 opening weekend.
SINGLE-MATCH RECORD: Gonzaga University women's volleyball junior Caitlin Cozad broke the Bulldog single-match block assists record against Utah State University Aug. 29. The middle blocker finished the match with 15 block assists, breaking assistant coach Abby (Cullen) Bennett's eight-year record of 13. Bennett tallied 13 block assists against the University of Portland in 2002. Cozad became the sixth Zag to register double-digit block assists in a single match.
CAREER MATCHES: Seniors Michelle Boevers and Layne Brosky, along with sophomore Kaprina Goodwin eclipsed multiple personal career-highs at the Weber State University Tournament. Boevers collected her first career double-double against Utah State University with 13 kills and 11 digs. The 11 digs was also a career-high, breaking her previous mark of seven that she tallied on four different occasions. Brosky, who finished the three-match tournament with a team-high 43 kills, finished with 18 kills against Utah State, one more than her previous career-high of 17. Goodwin also had her first career double-double against Utah State, collecting a career-high 10 kills and a career-high 11 digs. Her previous highs were six kills and two digs. She also finished the tournament with 16 total blocks, including a personal best seven block assists against USU.
NEARING 1,000 KILLS: Senior Michelle Boevers is inching towards eclipsing the 1,000 kill mark. The outside hitter enters into the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational with 981 kills, just 19 kills shy of 1,000. When she does hit 1,000+ kills, she will be the 11th Gonzaga University women's volleyball player to do so. The last player to tally 1000-plus kills was Becky Jones (2004-07) who finished her career with 1,429.
FIRST BULLDOG WIN: Gonzaga University first-year women's volleyball head coach Dave Gantt earned his first Bulldog career win against Utah State University Aug. 29. Gantt, who was out of the volleyball circuit for seven years, picked up his 217th overall career victory with the 3-2 win.
HOME SWEET HOME: After nine straight matches on the road, the Gonzaga University women's volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of the Martin Centre for four-straight matches beginning on Sept. 15. The Zags welcome in-state rival Washington State University to the Martin Centre on Sept. 15, followed by the University of North Dakota on Sept. 23 and the University of Montana on Sept. 29. Gonzaga will close out its four-match homestand by opening West Coast Conference play against the University of Portland on Oct. 3.
