CARMEL, Ind. - Gonzaga University freshmen Han Wu and Alice Kim are in the top 25 after two rounds Monday of the IU Fall Invitational hosted by Indiana University at Crooked Stick Golf Club.
Wu had rounds of 77-76 for a 153 and a tie for 13th, while Kim shot 79-77 for 156 and a tie for 25th heading into Tuesday's final round.
A cold, windy day saw scores soar over the 6,030-yard, par 72 layout as there were only five scores of par or better among the 13 teams and 12 individual golfers in the field of 77 players.
The Bulldogs had rounds of 316-308 for a 624 and a seventh-place tie with the host Hoosiers, four shots out of sixth and six shots out of fifth. The University of Notre Dame leads the team chase at 603, and the Ashley Armstrong of the Fighting Irish is Ashley Armstrong at 146 after rounds of 77-71. She holds a 1-stroke lead over Shannon Warner of Eastern Michigan University.
Tai Jade 'TJ' Kliebphipat was third among the Bulldogs Monday at 158 and a tie for 32nd and Victoria Fallgren was at 159 and a tie for 39th. Jessica Howe shot 167.
"Our situation continues to be the fourth score hurting us. We need four good scores tomorrow if we want a chance to improve. We need to fight thru the cold, wind and rain to prove we are a tough team," Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said.
The weather forecast for Tuesday is not encouraging, with a 70 percent chance of rain and a quarter-inch of rain expected to fall. The high, which reached 54 Monday, should be no higher than 48 Tuesday after an overnight low of 42.
