SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head women's soccer coach Amy Edwards announced the Bulldogs 2011 spring schedule Friday.
The Bulldogs are set to play five matches and will host their second annual Alumni Event and 7 v 7 Tournament at Gonzaga Soccer Field.
The schedule opens March 26 with a doubleheader in Pullman, Wash., against the University of Idaho at 11 a.m. followed by Washington State University. Both matches will be two 30 minute halves.
The Bulldogs host Eastern Washington University at Gonzaga Soccer Field April 3 at 1 p.m.
Gonzaga will host the Alumni Event and 7 v 7 Tournament on April 9. The day-long tournament, starting at 10 a.m., will feature Idaho, Eastern Washington University, Central Washington University and the Gonzaga Alumni as participants of the tournament. Gonzaga women's soccer alumni interested in attending and/or playing in the 7 v 7 should contact associate head coach Derek Pittman at pittman@athletics.gonzaga.edu or 509-313-4042. The Bulldogs wrap up the spring campaign in western Washington against Seattle Pacific University April 16 at 2 p.m. and Seattle University April 17 at 10 a.m.
As the spring schedule gives Gonzaga an off-season tune-up, freshman Katey Pennington and sophomore Lauren Berlingo, two of Gonzaga's additions this semester, will have the opportunity to get to know their teammates on the field.
"The spring is always a time for individual and team development and we believe these various contests will provide our team with plenty of chances for growth in manners of the technical, tactical and mental aspects of the game," Edwards said. "With such a young group of players, we know we must take steps forward in becoming a more mature and passionate team. We are providing those opportunities every day in the weight room, boxing, training, film sessions and meetings, and we look forward to reaping the benefits of all this hard work."
