Wind Gusts Creates Mixed Results for Zags in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev.—The Gonzaga University women's golf team saw mixed results Monday, battling tough winds throughout the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.

Despite the gusts, Raychelle Santos and Ciera Min continued their strong play and moved into the top 10 of the individual leaderboard with rounds of even-par 72. For Santos, it was her second consecutive round at par as she's currently tied for six with 144 strokes (E), while Min is only one shot back of her teammate, tied for ninth with 145 strokes (+1).

Next up for Gonzaga, Alice Kim turned in her second straight 76 (+4) during the second round, entering a tie for 49th place. The senior has taken 152 strokes so far in the tournament, eight shots over par. Right behind Kim is Dania Uy, who's tied for 58th at 153 (+9). The freshman turned in a round of 80 (+8) Tuesday.

Rounding out the lineup, Angela De Villa counted 84 strokes (+12) Tuesday to sit at 161 (+ 17) for the tournament.

As a team, the Zags are tied for eighth place after a second round total of 300, 12 shots above par. Over the two days of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, they've counted 594 strokes (+18). San Diego State retained the team lead with a tournament total of 575 (-1) while the Aztecs' Haleigh Krause extended her hold on the individual lead with a two-round tally of 133 (-11).

"There was some tough wind today," said Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel. "Raychelle and Ciera really played well and stayed with the plan all day. Alice and Dania are having tough time reading the greens right now and have not made many putts. We will need to be much better tomorrow if we want to finish higher."

The Zags will wrap up the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown Wednesday, Oct. 28, with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun, again at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
