PULLMAN, Wash. - The Gonzaga men's rowing team came in second in the Varsity 8+ boat at the Head of the Snake on a windy Saturday morning at Wawawai Landing just outside of Pullman, Wash.
The Zags, who had defeated Washington State in each of its last three race,s fell just short of making it four straight. GU came in seven seconds behind the Cougar men in the Varsity 8+ boat on the 5,000-meter course on the Snake River. GU finished in a time of 16:07.9, 38 seconds ahead of third-place Western Washington.
"Several of our boats did well today, but we had a few that didn't," head coach Dan Gehn said. "The ones that didn't have to do a better job of dealing with the conditions. This should give us a good dose of motivation for winter training and our spring schedule."
In the Second Varsity 8+ boat, GU was able to take a 44-second win over WSU and WWU with a time of 16:41.0. The Zags also had a boat in the First Novice 8+ race, coming in second at 18:20.8.
To wrap up the day, the Third Varsity 4+ boats of WSU and Gonzaga went head-to-head with GU taking a 48-second win in a time of 19:09.7.
The race wrapped up Gonzaga's schedule for the fall season. The Zags will return to action on March 13 in San Diego, Calif., at the Spring Break Regatta.
