SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Gonzaga University men's tennis wrapped up its regular-season Saturday as the Bulldogs fell 7-0 to University of San Diego at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.
The defeat moves the Zags to 9-13 overall and 0-9 in league.
San Diego swept the doubles point, although GU challenged in the No. 3 match.
Hayden Smith and Pablo Mosquera Pérez took Romain Kalaydjian and Patrick Hall to the distance. Unfortunately the USD pair claimed the contest 8-7 (2).
Other results saw No. 1's Jack Schoebel and Muzeen Ismath fall 8-3 to the 53rd-ranked team of Clarke Spinosa and Filip Vittek. No.2's Joey Brandt and Vladimir Mijatovic suffered a similar fate as they went under 8-4 to Ciaran Fitzgerald and Andrew Raphaelson.
Mijatovic was the lone Zag to extend his match to the third set. He faced Vittek but would fall 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (3).
Nick Kamisar was tasked with the 65th-ranked Spinosa. Unfortunately, he was defeated 6-1, 6-0. Smith lost at No. 3 to Kalaydjian 6-2, 6-4; Schoebel was ousted 6-0, 6-4 to Fitzgerald; Ismath was downed 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 to Raphaelson; and Mosquera was defeated 6-4, 6-1 to Aaron Addison.
Gonzaga concludes the 2014 season Wednesday as the WCC Championships begin in San Diego. The conference will release the bracket early next week.
