SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University volleyball head coach Dave Gantt announced Tuesday the signing of Nikki Leonard to a National Letter of Intent to join the Bulldogs 2014 roster.
Leonard is a 5-8 setter and outside hitter from Liberty High School in Bakersfield, Calif., and a member of Club Jamba.
"Nikki epitomizes the type of student-athlete and person we aspire to have join our program," Gantt complimented. "Under the tutelage of head coach Leandrea Slayton, Nikki was a starting member of the varsity volleyball team all four years. She possesses excellent athleticism and intellect, and having played multiple positions, she has a very high volleyball IQ. She will be an excellent addition to the Gonzaga Volleyball family."

Nikki Leonard will join the Zags as a highly decorated student-athlete. A four-year starter at Liberty High School, Leonard earned the honor of being the volleyball team captain. Through her leadership and high level of play, Leonard brought home Team MVP, League MVP and first-team All-Area accolades as a senior. As an experienced multiple sport athlete, she is well versed in a high caliber level of competition. In addition to all of her on court recognitions, Leonard was honored with the Top Scholar Award for carrying 4.00 GPA. "Nikki's successes carried over to her club team where she played for Jamba under Tom Clarke," Gantt stated. "Jamba earned a ‘national bid' for the Junior Olympic Tournament in Minneapolis beginning in June. She will be playing against the best of the best nationwide. We wish her good luck this summer and look forward to Nikki joining the team in July." |
