SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University incoming freshman Alex Bourguignon recently won the Girls' 18 singles at the Rick Macci Summer Supers L6 women's tennis tournament at the Boca Lago Country Club in Boca Raton, Fla.
Currently training at Boynton Beach, Fla., Bourguignon defeated Amber Policare in the final 4-6, 6-0, 10-8. Policare is currently ranked No. 42 and a Five Star by tennisrecruiting.net.
Gonzaga head coach DJ Gurule is looking forward to having Bourguignon join the squad this fall.
"We are so excited for Alex to begin her career at Gonzaga," Gurule said. "She has been working very hard this summer and to see her excel in this tournament is very rewarding."
On her way to the title she defeated Katya Townsend, ranked No. 31 and a Five Star, 6-1, 7-5 in the Round of 16; topped No. 4 seed Anna Bright, currently ranked No. 24 and a Blue Chip, 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinals, and No. 8 seed Clare McKee, ranked No. 97 and a Four Star, 7-6(4), 6-3 in the semifinals.
Bourguignon, who dropped just one set in the tournament, raised her ranking to No. 80 on tennisrecruiting.net.
