SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga women's basketball team put on a show in front of a large crowd at annual Fan Fest inside the McCarthey Athletic Center Saturday.
Fans got their first look at the 2015-16 Zags with festivities on the court, including an intrasquad scrimmage. The Zags unveiled the new four-quarter system with a quartet of seven-minute running-clock periods.
Gonzaga fans got their faces painted, collected their 2015-16 posters and schedule cards, entered drawings for GU prizes, and got their photos taken at a photo station. On the court, fans had a chance to play "Knockout" with Bulldog players, and enjoyed a three-point shooting contest.
Makenlee Williams took home the 2015 Fan Fest three-point title, defeating Jill Barta in the finals. Another newcomer, freshman Laura Stockton won the Knockout contest.
In the scrimmage, the blue team held off a late rally from the red team for the 29-27 victory. Elle Tinkle scored a game-high 10 points and matched a game-high four rebounds. She made four of her eight shots from the field in 27 minutes. Fellow blue team member, Barta added nine points. Shelby Cheslek led the red team with eight points and four rebounds.
The red team shot fairly consistent, making 40 percent of their shots from the field in the first half and 45.5 percent in the second half. They also made four of their five attempts from three-point range, but their 10 turnovers proved to be the difference. The blue team also had a 20-16 rebound advantage. The red team did have eight assists on their nine made shots from the field.
The Zag faithful had a chance to get autographs from all of the Gonzaga student-athletes and coaches after the scrimmage.
The Bulldogs welcome Carroll College (Mont.) in an exhibition on Nov. 6 at 6 p.m., then officially open the regular season against Air Force, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m.
