MALIBU, Calif. -- Pepperdine women's soccer picked up a conference win with a 4-0 victory over Gonzaga Friday.
The Waves (7-6-2, 2-3-0 West Coast Conference) outshot GU, 15-8, and scored on four of their six shots on goal. Pepperdine also had a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks.
The match's first goal was scored by Christina Settles in the 14th minute. The freshman found the back of the net for the first time this season. She drove a ball low from the top of the box, across the frame, and into the corner of the goal.
The Waves scored their second goal 10 minutes prior to halftime. Hailey Harbison's first goal of the year came off of a long pass from Courtney Assumma that split the GU defense. Harbison controlled the pass and flipped a shot with the outside of her foot over the Bulldogs' Christie Tombari to the far post.
Bri Visalli scored her third goal of the season three minutes into the second half. Pepperdine took advantage of a loose ball in the 18-yard box, as Harbison kicked a ball back to Visalli near the top of the box. Visalli then shot a ball low into the net.
Settles' second goal of the game came in the 74th minute. Taylor Alvarado was credited with the assist, her first of the year.
The Zags (2-9-5, 1-4-1 WCC) had some quality opportunities in the setback. In the 50th minute, Jodi Ulkekul was in the middle of a scrum for a loose ball close to the net, but could not get a clean look. Karley Baggerly made a great pass to Sydney Anderson in the 67th minute, but Anderson's shot struck the post and Heather Johnson's rebound was just high. Baggerly threatened four minutes later, but her shot was deflected out by Pepperdine goalkeeper, Hannah Seabert.
Seabert finished the match with four saves, while Tombari made one. Sarah Swanson made her season-debut in the Gonzaga net. The redshirt sophomore played the final 11 minutes and made a nice diving save.
Johnson took a game-high four shots for GU, with two on goal. She moved to third all-time in program history with 171 shots in her career. Both of Baggerly's shots in the contest were on frame. Harbison had four opportunities, with three on goal.
Gonzaga plays at Loyola Marymount (9-4-1, 3-1-0) Sunday. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m., and will have live coverage on GoZags.com.
