A RIVALRY IN THE MAKING
- Gonzaga and Dayton made deep runs in last year's NCAA Tournament and they meet in Dayton Friday.
- Dayton enters the game ranked first in the ESPNW Mid-Major weekly rankings, while the Zags top the CollegeInsiders.com poll for the third consecutive week.
- Gonzaga is in the middle of a five-game road stretch that covers 7,725 miles.
GONZAGA STORYLINES
- The Bulldogs are fourth in the country with 53 total blocks. Their 5.3 blocks per game average tops the West Coast Conference and are 45th in the country.
- Shelby Cheslek needs five blocks to break Kayla Standish's program record of 176 in a career. - The senior is ninth in the nation with 24 blocks already this season, and her 2.4 per game ranks 29th in the country.
- Cheslek is third in the WCC and 13th in the country with 93 total rebounds.
- Gonzaga is holding opponents to 54.8 points per game, which leads the West Coast Conference and is 40th in the nation.
- Under Lisa Fortier, Gonzaga is 30-4 when it leads at halftime and is 31-2 when it shoots a higher field goal percentage than its opponent. - The Bulldogs' 142 made free-throws ranks 11th in the nation, while their 203 attempts are also 11th.
ABOUT THE FLYERS
- Dayton enters the game winners of six of its first eight games of the season.
- Both of the Flyers' losses were by single-digits, with the first to Stanford (66-74) and the other at Purdue (58-61).
- Dayton is seven spots out of the USA Today Coaches' Top 25 poll with 19 votes.
- The Flyers are 12th in the country and lead the Atlantic-10 Conference with a free-throw percentage of 77.3.
- Dayton also tops the A-10 in three-pointers made (58) and three-pointers made per game (7.3). It is second in field-goal percentage (43.1), scoring margin (12.9), scoring offense (74.1), turnover margin (3.75) and turnovers forced (18.75).
- Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova has blocked 22 shots already this season and is 18th in the nation at 2.75 per game.
- Amber Deane's 17.1 points per game is second in the Atlantic-10. She is shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 82.2 from the free-throw line. She is adding a team-high 3.3 assists per game.
- Saicha Grant-Allen leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per outing. Cornelie-Sigmundova is adding 6.5 boards per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- The programs will meet for the third time Friday. Gonzaga has won both of the first two meetings.
- This will be the first-ever meeting in Dayton. The first meeting was in the 2011 Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic.
- Gonzaga won last the last meeting 75-65, last season in Spokane. The Zags rallied from a 11-point halftime deficit.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
- Shelby Cheslek recorded her 12th career double-double at Washington State (15 pts, 14 rbs). - The senior has three double-doubles this season after having four in 2014-15.
- She has scored double-digits and grabbed nine rebounds in two games this season.
- Her first career double-double was an 11-point and 11-rebound performance at LMU on Feb. 9, 2013.
- Teammate Kiara Kudron also has two double-doubles this season.
GETTING DEFENSIVE
- Gonzaga currently leads the West Coast Conference with a 54.8 scoring defense (35th in the nation), and blocks per game at 5.3 (45th in the nation).
- The Bulldogs are first in the WCC in three-point field goal percentage defense at 26.7 (61st in the country), and second in the field goal percentage defense at 36.0 (73rd in the country).
IT'S A BLOCK PARTY
- Last season's GU team broke the program record with 184 blocks in a season.
- This season's team has 53 through the first 10 games, including 11 blocks in the win over West Virginia, which is fourth on the program's all-time single game list. It was also the most since the record was broken with 16 against Saint Mary's in 2010.
- Shelby Cheslek is on pace to contend with the single season program record of 77 set by Stephanie Hawk in 2006-07.
CHASING MILESTONES
- Cheslek is second in program history with 172 blocks, four away from tying the record.
- The senior moved into the West Coast Conference's all-time top-10 in 10th currently.
- She is also sixth in GU history with 744 rebounds.
FREQUENT FLYER MILES
- After the 2,705-mile trip to New England, the Bulldogs travel to Dayton, Ohio, and Hamilton, N.Y., this week.
- Dayton is 2,055 miles away from Gonzaga, and Dayton to Colgate is then a 581-mile trip.
- The Zags will then make the 2,509-mile trip back to Spokane.
- Gonzaga's longest conference road trip is 1,301 miles to San Diego.
