Four-Overtime Thriller goes to WBB

SPOKANE, Wash. - The game featured 21 lead changes and 14 ties. The game lasted two hours and 50 minutes with four overtime periods. In the end, Gonzaga women's basketball won its 13th straight game with a historic 91-84 victory over San Francisco Saturday.

In front of a sellout crowd inside the Kennel, the Zags (19-4, 12-0 West Coast Conference) remained unbeaten in WCC action with the thrilling win. The four overtimes were the most in WCC history during league play, and it was also the longest game this season at any level of women's college basketball. The game was also the longest in Gonzaga women's or men's history since the men went to four overtimes in 1978. Saturday's game was also the first to go longer than one overtime inside the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Gonzaga, which has now won 30 straight games at home over conference opponents, grabbed 67 rebounds, one shy of the program record set in 1990. Its 86 attempts from the field was also two shy of the record set in 2001.

Keani Albanez led all scorers with 20 points on 6-of-18 shooting from the field. Sunny Greinacher added 19 points and three blocks. Elle Tinkle had 17 points and 13 rebounds. Emma Stach matched her season-high with 11 points. Shelby Cheslek grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and four blocks. Emma Wolfram pulled down 10 boards.

The Zags shot 37 percent from the field, while USF finished at 35 percent. Gonzaga made a season-high 10 three-pointers on 24 attempts. It was 17-of-28 (60 percent) from the free-throw line. The Dons made 7-of-26 from behind-the-arc and 27-of-32 from the free-throw line.

The Dons largest lead of the game was by six at the start of the game. GU led by 10 early in the second half, after leading 31-30 at halftime. Freshman Anna Seilund hit her first basket of the game with a game-tying three-pointer with one second left in regulation. After both teams scored just two points in the first overtime, the Zags' Lindsay Sherbert hit a tying runner with nine seconds left in the second overtime. Gordon then evened the score with a three-pointer with eight seconds left in the third overtime.

San Francisco (14-10, 5-8 WCC) had five players finish in double-digits led by Taylor Proctor's 19 points. Michaela Rakova added 17. Paige Spietz and Taj Winston both scored 12 and Zhane Dikes had 10. Aundrea Gordon played a game-high 54 minutes. USF finished with 41 rebounds.

Gonzaga finished the regular season sweep over the Dons. The Zags won the first meeting, 78-70, in San Francisco on Jan. 8. Saturday, USF led for 21:29. GU entered the game trailing for only 15:47 in the 440 minutes of conference play so far this season.

The Bulldogs travel to Los Angeles for a matchup with Loyola Marymount (3-21, 1-12) Thursday. Gonzaga won the first meeting the season, 76-62, in Spokane on Jan. 17.
