BANDON, Ore. - With winds gusting at 50 miles per hour, accompanied by heavy rain, the third and final round of the sixth annual Bandon Dunes Championship was cancelled Sunday.
The Gonzaga men's golf team finished 13th in the tournament. The Zags posted a 595 total, which was 19-over par.
"A storm rolled in this morning and we weren't able to finish the round due to rain accumulating on the greens and high winds," Gonzaga Head Coach Robert Gray said. "We were off to a good start and felt like we could put together a round that would move us up the leaderboard but it wasn't meant to be."
Sean Walsh finished tied for 27th at three-over par. James Fahy and Angus Montgomery were tied for 41st at five-over. Will Brueckner (+7, T54th) and Brendan Connolly (+11, T73rd) rounded out the Zag finishes.
"Shortened events can work for you or against you depending on where you're sitting after the second round," Gray said. "This is the second one that hasn't fallen in our favor. We need to get off to better starts in our events, which has been an issue this spring."
Duke won the team title. The Blue Devils were tied with Missouri at one-under, but won the tiebreaker. San Jose State's Cody Blick beat out Washington State's Michael Anderson by one stroke at six-under for medalist honors.
The Bulldogs have a week to prepare for the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. The two-day tournament opens on March 23 at the Eugene Country Club.
"We have just one week to shore up some areas of our games before we head out to Oregon's event," Gray said.
