Albanez Joins USA All-Star Team in China

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Recently graduated Gonzaga women's basketball standout, Keani Albanez, has joined the NetScouts USA Women's All-Star Basketball team in China. The team is competing in the Four Nations international basketball tournament.

Albanez is the second former Zag to be part of the event. Haiden Palmer scored 89 points through the first six games of the tournament's first tour. Palmer helped guide USA to four victories in those six contests. Albanez now joins the U.S. in the second-leg of the event.

The United States team, organized and coached by NetScouts Basketball, will play a round-robin format in three cities for nine games against national teams of China, Denmark and Poland. The team first played three games in Wenshan, near the Vietnam border from July 17-19. They now head to Chenzhou in Hunan Province to play three games from July 21-23. USA then travels to Shenzhen to play from July 25-27.

In her four years as a Zag, Albanez appeared in 132 games, which is sixth all-time in program history. She started 68 consecutive games. She tallied 1,038 points during her GU career, which is 20th all-time in program history. She averaged a career-best 13.1 points per game in 2014-15.

Albanez was named All-West Coast Conference second team this season. In her GU career, she had seven 20-point games, with six coming in 2014-15. The Santa Barbara, Calif. native is fifth all-time in program history with a career 80.6 free-throw percentage. She is fourth all-time at GU with 164 made three-pointers in her career.

Proving she is a defensive threat as well, Albanez has totaled 180 steals in her career, which is eighth on the Gonzaga all-time list. She finished second in the conference this season averaging 2.4 steals per contest.

While at GU, Albanez played in four NCAA Tournaments, won four West Coast Conference titles, and was a part of 110 victories.

The second-leg NetScouts Basketball USA All-Stars include: Ariel Thomas, 5'7, PG, (Oregon/Czech Republic), Keena Mays, 5'7, PG (SMU/Israel), Deanna Weaver, 5'11, G/F (Boise State), Keani Albanez, 5'10, G (Gonzaga), Alexyz Vaioletama, 6'1, F (USC), Stephanie Lee, 6'1, F (Northern Colorado), Joy Burke, 6'5, C (Arizona State/Denmark) and Cierra Warren, 6'5, C (San Diego State/WNBA/Bulgaria). The team will be coached by Ryan Johnson of Idaho State and assisted by Drew Muscatel.

NetScouts Basketball organizes and coaches All-Star Men's and Women's teams which represent the USA in international basketball competition. This enables highly successful players who have recently completed their eligibility to represent their country, get experience playing international basketball and provide an amazing cultural experience.
