SPOKANE, Wash. -- In a physical match that featured a season-high 35 combined fouls, Gonzaga women's soccer and Utah State played to a 1-1 draw after two overtimes Sunday.

The Zags (1-2-2) took a season-high 28 shots, placing 10 on goal, which also matched a season-high. It was the most shot attempts for GU since Aug. 22 of last season at CSU Bakersfield. Karley Baggerly and Kristin Hayman became the first Bulldog duo to both take eight shots in a game in the last nine years.

It was Hayman's penalty kick in the 51st minute that evened the score. After Baggerly was taken down in the box, Hayman struck a ball easily into the back of the USU net for her first collegiate goal.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes, the Aggies' (3-2-1) Jessica Brooksby recorded her third goal of the season nearly three minutes into the second half. The junior received a pass from Jordyn Chung-Hoon and slid it to the far post, hitting the post on the way in. It was Chung-Hoon's second assist of the season.

The Bulldogs came out very aggressive early, taking seven shots in the first 25 minutes, including five in the first 10 minutes. GU had a 10-4 advantage in shots in the opening half. However, Jodi Ulkekul cleared a loose ball right in front of the Gonzaga net in the 23rd minute that could have been the first goal for Utah State.

Gonzaga had an excellent chance in the 77th minute for the go-ahead goal. A loose ball in the six-yard box was errantly kicked by a USU defender and hit the post after getting by the Aggies' goalkeeper. Conversely in the 102nd minute, Wesley Hamblin struck a ball well that just went over the outstretched Christie Tombari and hit the crossbar. The Bulldogs had one final opportunity as Aliyah Miller's shot from just outside of the 18-yard box hit the crossbar in the closing seconds.

The Zags had a 13-6 edge in shots taken in the second half. Over the final 65 minutes Gonzaga outshot USU, 18-11.

"It was a step in the right direction in regards to competing mentally from whistle to whistle today," GU Head Coach Amy Edwards said.

It was the second 110-minute draw for the Zags this season and the third overtime contest in their first five games.

Gonzaga had a 13-6 advantage in corner kicks, taking four in both the first and second halves. The Bulldogs finished with 19 fouls.

After making six saves Friday against Iowa, the Aggies' Jeannie Woller made nine against GU Sunday. Tombari ended with two saves and is now seventh all-time in program history with 181 in her career.

It was the seventh all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Utah State, and the first since 2012. Gonzaga now holds a 5-1-1 advantage over the Aggies.

The Zags welcome Cal State-Fullerton for their next match Friday. The Titans (6-0-0) are off to their best start in program history after a 1-0 win versus UNLV Sunday. Friday's game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Luger Field.
