SPOKANE, Wash.-The Gonzaga University women's tennis team faced a scrappy Nevada squad Sunday morning, but singles rallies led the Zags to a 5-2 win over the Wolfpack at The Stevens Center in Spokane.

Freshman Nevada Apollo picked up Gonzaga's clinching point, beating Adriana Gergelyova in a tightly-contested No. 3 singles match. Gergelyova leaped out to a large 0-4 lead in the first set, but Apollo stiffened up, winning six of the next eight games to force a tiebreak at 6-all. In that tiebreak, Apollo pulled ahead for a 7-3 victory. The next set also saw extra tennis with Apollo holding a slim margin throughout, putting away the match with a 7-5 set win.

Before Apollo's clincher, Domonique Garley and Graciela Rosas each gave the Zags singles points. Garley won the first individual match to finish, easily dispatching Delaney Phanco 6-2, 6-0 on court No. 6. When considering both Sunday's match and Jan. 29's win over Montana, Garley won 24 of her 28 games played during the first home dual weekend. Up one court, Rosas put away Monika Magusiak in two sets as well, doubling up Magusiak in the first set 6-3 and taking the second 6-2. Rosas' win put the Zags up at 3-2 in the match after Nevada won on courts one and two.

On court No. 4, Alex Bourguignon added the final point to Gonzaga's tally with a three-set win over Blaga Delic. Delic swept the first set 0-6, but Bourguignon bounced back in the second 6-3. She took the second by a 6-2 tally to cap off the Zags' first home weekend of the dual season.

Gonzaga won a tightly contested doubles point to begin the match. On court three, Garley and Sissi Koehler battled to a 6-3 victory over Magusiak and Sara Korzeniecki to open the doubles contest, and GU clinched the point a few minutes later when Samantha Polayes and Sophie Whittle won on court one. The two teams traded games for much of the match, but GU's pair earned a break to go up 5-4 and held Whittle's serve to clinch the match. Polayes and Whittle have already won 15 matches including fall tournament results, and they're undefeated at 3-0 in dual play.

At No. 2 doubles, Bourguignon and Melanie Yates eliminated a 3-5 deficit and went up a game at 6-5, but Nevada's Gergelyova and Sheila Morales forced a tiebreak. The Bulldog duo went down early in the tiebreak but rallied back to take the extra session 9-7 and confirm the doubles sweep.

Gonzaga (3-1) remains at home through February, next playing host to Seattle U. That match will take place on Feb. 13 at 11:00 a.m., again at The Stevens Center.
